![]() ![]() Picture a middle-aged lady stepping into the gym for the first time in her life because someone in her life departed prematurely due to health issues and she decides to make a change to her lifestyle to stay around longer for her children. I call it the gym-rookie conundrum you’re scared of going to the gym because the gym makes you scared.Ī word to gym regulars: Don’t hate on new year resolutioners, don’t fat-shame, don’t mock and snigger at newcomers doing weird stuff. Not everybody is confident enough to step into a new environment to sweat it out in front of strangers who’ll probably judge you for doing something wrong though it’s because you’re new. Why didn’t I recommend going to the gym? Image Credits: Google, Buzzleīelieve me, I fully understand that it is not an easy place to start, especially if you’re a female. It can be playing badminton with your child at the park on weekends or going for yoga classes with your friends or just about anything you have interest in, really. The rationale is simple if you enjoy it, time passes faster, and you’ll have a reason to move. It’s not easy when you’re dead beat after work, but it’s a start. This is exactly what the Singapore government is trying to encourage through the ‘10,000 steps daily’ challenge. Take a stroll home and save the bus fare. Spend the hour drinking more water, filling your bottle up more often and making more frequent trips to the lavatory. If you sit at a desk for 6 hours daily, try to make it 5. If you’re really looking to improve your health through embracing a more active lifestyle, start small. ![]() ![]() You really can’t out-train a bad diet, period.Ī healthy lifestyle doesn’t require crazy amounts of exercise. Imagine consuming all of that in 1 sitting. If you ever tried squeezing all the oil out of a KFC chicken, you’ll know I’m not exaggerating about the amount. The picture above has at least 2 Yakult bottles worth of oil, and not the good kind. It doesn’t take a surgeon to know that all that oil is really bad for your heart. Image Credits: Google, YelpĮver met someone who trains like a madman in the gym and eats a whole platter of fast food after? “It’s OK, he earned it” is the common sentiment you get. The ironic part is when people try so hard to do everything right in the gym while they completely neglect the more important aspect of having a proper diet outside the gym. Long story short, diet is more important than training. I’ll elaborate more on this rule in a later post. ![]() With regards to attaining a healthier and sustainable lifestyle, there really is no need to be SO concerned with the finer details like caffeine dosage, carb-loading timing or AMRAPs. I’m not here to dispute whether your strength programme works or not I’m also not here to tell you to stop cleansing your body with detox teas. I was guilty of this too, by the way, but I’m just voicing out the fact that people around us think we’re crazy and ridiculous, and in this post, I’m actually siding with them on this. Of course, the homework usually pays off in terms of powerlifting because technique and conditioning of the body are key for optimal performance. It’s typically the guys who do all this research looking for the best, most scientific/efficient way to do every exercise in every aspect. Girls are generally more sensible in this aspect they just come to the gym, finish a workout they found online or one that’s recommended to them by a friend, and they leave. My point is that guys tend to take gymming way too seriously. Curiously enough though, not every girl will. – dinokangĮvery guy who goes to the gym regularly will know all the gym jargons above. The best cardio in the world will not save you from a heart attack if you don’t check your diet. ![]()
